Hunting Lessons - Boar (butchering)

Boars provide a lot of useful materials: Raw Hide, Intestines, Boar Meat, Bone Material and Boar Tusks. Remember that the quality of the items are affected by your Survival skill value and the quality of your carving tool.

Once you've gotten the hang of hunting boars, try crafting a Boar Tusk Helmet. This piece of headgear can protect you from small amounts of damage.

Boars are a common sight when traveling in forests. While dangerous to the unprepared, they are good sources of animal hide, meat and bones.

The easiest hunting method is to use a sling and a boat. This allows you to attack the boar with little risk of getting mauled, since they can't cross water.

The video below demonstrates boar hunting with the following minimum requirements:
1. Marksmanship at skill value 10
2. Sling at quality 10
3. A Rowboat

Note that these are only the bare minimum requirements. A higher quality Sling or Bow will do more damage. Raising your Marksmanship skill value and Perception attribute will also speed up the process. Some experienced hunters can even hunt animals with a single, well-aimed shot!

Building a Palisade wall can be tedious and time-consuming, but it can be the only thing keeping wild animals and raiders from ruining your day.

Seal corner posts as quickly as possible to prevent other players from extending it in other directions. Nothing stops them from using unsealed posts to change your wall layout and potentially trapping you within your own home.

Remember to Claim the land around your home, including the Palisade. This will prevent the walls from decaying and save time on repairs.

You can build a gate between two corner posts if you leave two paved tiles between them. Remember that at least one of the corner posts must remain unsealed to do this.

One of the important aspects of safety in Haven and Hearth is building a Palisade wall around your home. Palisade walls will protect you and your belongings from most threats, since they are very hard to destroy without the aid of a Battering Ram.

To do so, you need Lumberjacking to chop down trees for wood.

You also need the skill Yeomanry, which has the following prerequisites:
1. Foraging
2. Plant Lore
3. Farming
4. The Will to Power

Lastly, you need to Discover the following materials:
1. Block of Wood
2. Leather
3. Bone Glue
4. Rope

This sounds like a lot of work, but it is a key activity in ensuring your future survival.

Riverside Story III

The boat from last time is gone. I quickly get down and investigate the area.

I find a moderately developed settlement nearby, but there are no signs of human activity.

Upon checking the cabinets, I find some useful items here, such as Bear Teeth.

I fill up a Wooden Chest with whatever I can carry before heading back to the boat.

Riverside Story II

I continue exploring the river system and find a few more signs of recent activity.

Perhaps this area is good for Fishing. I'll note it down for later.

Walking too close to a river can be dangerous, as you can run into players looking for violence.
